Eurowings is the value airline for point-to-point traffic in Europe
With clear positioning as Europe’s value airline for private and business travellers, Eurowings clearly sets itself apart from the segment of ultra-low-cost carriers and gives its customers access to affordable flying with innovative and customer-friendly services. With its value concept the German airline responds to the demands of today’s airline passengers, for whom flexibility, affordable comfort and sustainability are decisive.
Eurowings’ route network focuses on European point-to-point traffic and addresses the growth in the private travel segment. Eurowings offers non-stop flights to more than 150 destinations, mostly in Europe, but also beyond. With an attractive route network and 13 international bases – including Mallorca, Europe’s most popular holiday island – Eurowings is one of Europe’s largest holiday airlines. Eurowings currently has a fleet of 98 aircraft and is the market leader in the four largest metropolitan areas in Germany outside the Lufthansa Group hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.
Eurowings consists of two different flight operations. While Eurowings offers flights from Germany to European destinations, Eurowings Europe covers pan-European routes. Eurowings Europe operates from its international bases in Palma de Mallorca, Salzburg, Graz, Prague and Stockholm and offers travellers a growing selection of holiday destinations and attractive city connections throughout Europe.
Eurowings launches own tour operator
Eurowings has expanded its business activities and, with Eurowings Holidays, established its own tour operator which officially started operations in April 2025. By strategically establishing this new company, Eurowings has achieved an important milestone in the growing tourism business.
The new tour operator offers tailored holiday travel from a single provider. Customers benefit from great flexibility, with low advance payments, the option to rebook free of charge and low-cost cancellation.
Largest fleet modernisation in company history planned
In January 2025, the Lufthansa Group decided to assign a total of 40 brand-new Boeing 737-8 MAXs to Eurowings. The aircraft are to be delivered between 2027 and 2032. Eurowings is thus set to embark on its largest ever fleet modernisation.
The cutting-edge aircraft are particularly efficient, consume up to 20% less kerosene and therefore emit correspondingly less CO2. This enables Eurowings to make significant progress on its path towards more sustainable aviation. They will successively replace the Airbus A319 fleet and older models of the Airbus A320. A significantly larger range also makes them the ideal model for longer medium-haul destinations, which are increasingly in the Eurowings offering. Eurowings passengers enjoy the latest airline standards thanks to a new cabin design.
Eurowings introduces Premium Business seats on medium-haul routes
Eurowings is the first airline in Germany also to offer Premium Business seats on longer medium-haul routes. Known as the Premium BIZ-seat, they offer passengers greater comfort and more privacy on medium-haul flights. The new seating concept was used for the first time on the non-stop Berlin-Dubai route in November 2025. The new Premium BIZ-seat is part of a comprehensive product and service offensive with which Eurowings intends to improve the travel experience significantly on short- and medium-haul flights. The new seating concept offers great flexibility, as the Premium BIZ-seat can be exchanged for Economy seats in just one day.
Eurowings voted Europe’s best low-cost airline in 2025
Eurowings was voted Europe’s “Best Low-Cost Airline” at the distinguished Skytrax World Airline Awards in 2025. With this prestigious accolade, the market research institute Skytrax acknowledged Eurowings’ consistent quality offensive and successful expansion into a value airline for Europe.
Changes in the management of Eurowings
Max Kownatzki has been the new Chief Executive Officer and Chief Commercial Officer of Eurowings since 1 February 2026. He succeeded Jens Bischof, who left the executive board at the end of 2025. Max Kownatzki was previously Chief Executive Officer of SunExpress.
New wage agreements signed
During the reporting year, Eurowings and the trade union ver.di signed new collective wage agreements for the approximately 700 staff covered by collective agreements, including apprentices and students at Eurowings Aviation GmbH, as well as for around 1,800 cabin crew members at Eurowings GmbH. ↗ Employees.
Eurowings is a strategic partner in innovative project for sustainable aviation fuel
Eurowings launched a strategic partnership with Greenlyte, a start-up from Essen. Greenlyte is building a next-generation trial laboratory for sustainable aircraft fuel at Düsseldorf Airport. The plant enables Power-to-Liquid kerosene to be produced “from the air to the tank”. Eurowings intends to be the exclusive buyer of the entire production volume, initially for the first three years. Power-based fuels play a key technological role for more sustainable aviation in the future. When it is completed in 2028, the trial laboratory will be one of the world’s largest production plants for direct air capture to sustainable aviation fuel (DAC to SAF).
Eurowings strengthens environmental management with EMAS and ISO 14001 certification
The German Eurowings sites have been officially certified under the European EMAS standard (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) and the international ISO 14001 standard. Within the scope of this certification, Eurowings has published for the first time an environmental statement for the period from 2022 to 2024. This documents the environmental performance of all of its German locations and shows how the airline is systematically working toward the achievement of its environmental goals. For the coming year, this certification is to be expanded to include Eurowings’ pan-European locations. ↗ Combined non-financial declaration.
Significant rise in capacity and passenger numbers
In the 2025 financial year, Eurowings registered strong demand for tourist flights in particular and expanded its capacity accordingly. The number of passengers carried by Eurowings grew by 4% to 23.7 million in the reporting year (previous year: 22.8 million). The number of flights increased by 3% year-on-year. Capacity was up by 9%, particularly due to longer routes, and sales also increased by 9%. At 84.8%, the passenger load factor matched the previous year’s level (previous year: 84.8%). Yields fell by 4.8%. At EUR 3,016m, traffic revenue was up 5% on the previous year (previous year: EUR 2,872m).
Revenue up by 7% year-on-year, Adjusted EBIT of EUR 132m realised
Despite lower yields, Eurowings’ revenue rose by 7% year-on-year to EUR 3,077m (previous year: EUR 2,872m) due to volumes, as a result of a strong increase in capacity on leisure travel routes. Operating income rose by 8% to EUR 3,231m (previous year: EUR 2,983m). This was due, in particular, to income from other periods resulting from releases of provisions.
Operating expenses increased by 9% in the reporting year to EUR 3,109m (previous year: EUR 2,855m). The cost of materials and services was 11% (EUR +212m) higher than in the previous year, mainly to volumes and prices as a result of higher fees and charges (EUR +87m) and expenses for wet leases (EUR +42m). Staff costs rose by 10% (EUR +42m) also due to the recruitment activities pursued in the context of the ongoing expansion of the airline’s flight programme.
Adjusted EBIT at Eurowings dropped by 35% year-on-year in the reporting year to EUR 132m (previous year: EUR 203m). This change mainly reflects the decline in the result from the equity investment in the SunExpress joint venture, which fell by 87% to EUR 10m (previous year: EUR 75m), as well as the decrease in yields due to intense price pressure and passengers’ increased price sensitivity in relation to leisure flights.
The Adjusted EBIT margin declined by 2.8 percentage points to 4.3% (previous year: 7.1%) in the reporting year. EBIT has decreased by 49% to EUR 133m (previous year: EUR 261m).
